Artillery in the Civil War

Continued analysis of the "Battle Tactics ..." Griffith. Several interesting conclusions about the artillery.
First number: Griffith writes, in the east tended to saturation artillery, 3-4 runs per thousand people in the Union army and more than 4 per thousand of the Confederates, with around two thirds of EU section was threaded, and in the opponent's was exactly the opposite. In the west, the two sides reached saturation of about 2 barrels per thousand people. Very useful information, especially if you plan to make a "iluśtam" figures for that period.
As regards the use of artillery, is not much new - artillery is more effective in defense than attack, due to the close distance of fire. The most prized were the 12-pounder Napoleon kartaczami shooting, while the threaded fitting works best to conduct artillery duels.
much interesting information concerning casualties gunners. Griffith argues that the loss of battery very rarely exceeded 30% of the service, even if many hours of fighting on the front line, combined with warding off attacks of infantry. What's more - even a loss of 50-60% of people (which sometimes happened) does not interfere with wystrzelaniu entire ammunition. It follows from this that the fire is under the battery should not lose firepower gradually, but either increments (with a direct hit on has) or withdraw (to be "silenced"), which has no connection with the losses, but more to the intensity of the fire, tactical situation and morale of the unit. In other words, do not expect operating losses, but losses forum - dismantled by enemy missiles or left in position by the inability to withdraw. This is an important application. I'll try to remember.
